The first cooking app I want to introduce you is called Tyler Florence Fast and as you may have guessed it’s developed by the celebrity chef Tyler Florence. Executive chef at Wayfare Tavern in San Francisco and founder of the Tyler Florence Group. This guy is a television host for several tv networks and own or participate in several businesses as his small chain of luxury kitchen supply stores.

The app contains more than 500 of Tyler’s recipes, in addition to several cool features like a cooking timer and an “Ask a Chef” email service.

Like Jamie Oliver’s 20 Minute Meals app, Tyler Florence Fast has a very nice interface that is smooth and glitch-free. The home page features a keyword search, in addition to tabs for browsing recipes or viewing featured menus.

What’s really cool to me is the cooking timer with lots of customization options, as you can create named timers or have it play a certain song from your iPod playlist.

Within the Tyler Florence Fast app, you can browse recipes alphabetically or by category. The recipe categories include all the basics like entrees, desserts, appetizers, etc.

I like the recipes and his cuisine in general. Ingredients and instructions are listed on the same page, and you can save any recipe to your favorites or email it to a friend. Sadly, the Tyler Florence app isn’t integrated with Facebook or Twitter though. There’s also no nutritional information. What I really don’t like in this cooking app is the lacking in pictures. I think that in a cooking app pictures are essential as they may help you in understanding the cooking process and also to break the boring plain text.

The featured recipes in the Tyler Florence Fast app have full-color pictures, but they only represent a fraction of the 500-plus recipes.

The app also includes an “Ask the Chef” feature, where you can email the app’s creators for recipe advice or other cooking questions. Not really sure if he actually answers to your questions.. For novices, the Tyler Florence Fast app does have a good amount of instructional content. There are videos on how to sauté a fish, for example, or how to sharpen a knife. The app also includes an “Ask the Chef” feature, where you can email the app’s creators for recipe advice or other cooking questions.
